How Did You Attract/Address Your Audience
The main way to attract an audience to my magazine will be through my front cover. This is because this is what people will see when browsing the magazine stands in shops. This makes it key that my front cover stands out from all its competitors on the shelf and offers something that my target audience will want to buy. For this reason I have used a very aesthetically pleasing front cover photo. The lighting mixed with her eye contact portrays that the feeling that she is looking right at you and that this magazine is more personal to the reader. This is done to play on the uses and gratifications theory of escapism in which it allows an audience to escape into their own personal world within the confines of the pages of my magazine. Another thing I have played on is my target audience’s interest in international music. For this reason I have over exasperated the idea of an American tour by a popular British artist. I have then managed to incorporate how my magazine offers reviews and recommendations for new music to look out for. This is used to build the personal relationship between magazine and reader in which they are conceived as a friend who would recommend music that you would enjoy. My target audience are also highly interested in going to all the big gigs and seeing all their favourite bands. This will be something that they are willing to spend their hard money on. This has led me to offer a gig guide as this will play on their other music interests offering them a way to make sure that they don’t miss out on any gigs by having a full list of events, dates, venues and supporting acts. I have then identified the key importance of sociality within my target audience. This constant hunger for socialisation leads them to be active users of current social networking zeitgeists such as Facebook and Twitter. To keep up with these current trends I have created a Facebook and Twitter page in which my audience can follow attracting them to purchase the magazine. Another key aspect of the media market that has currently been on a rapid rise is the use of E-books and computer tablets such as the I-Pad and Kindle. For this purpose all issues of my magazine will be available for purchase through the apple app store for Ipad and Amazon’s Kindle store in the magazine section. This will attract users of these technologies in several ways. Firstly it will simplify the process of purchasing the magazine as leaving the home won’t even be needed. This also allows an audience to buy issues on the go when they get the impulse to before it dies by the time they have reached a store. Another key feature for my youthful audience is this will reduce the cost of my magazine as distribution and printing costs will be nonexistent allowing all the afford a magazine they once possibly couldn’t. Although my magazine is distributed to most of Europe and America the use of electronic issues allows the market to be easily globalised vastly expanding my target audience. Another feature that can attract my audience is the offer of subscription as this allows them to save money and keep up to date with all the latest in the music industry. By targeting such a largely social target audience my magazine can also be a pathway for social interaction. This allows readers to talk about articles in my magazine and trade issues with their friends.
